The July 2024 Brewers Anonymous Member’s meeting was held on Friday, July 19th, at Home State Brewing Company.
The meeting began by welcoming new member Arthur Winston and returning member Jason Breckling to Brewers Anonymous!
An adjustment to the August club challenge was announced. For the August club challenge, all lagers in categories 1 through 8 will now be accepted (no wheat beers or Altbiers). This addition now coincides with our summer lager exchange event.
Hot N Humid 2024 was recapped in our presentation. Along with winning the competition, the club also reached the following milestones:
284 Beers Judged
33 Medals awarded to Club members
5 Best of Show medals
Best of Show Beer category sweep
Heavy Medal Club winner with 71 points
(For a complete list of club winners, see the article “The most challenging Hot’ N Humid to date is in the books!“).
This win put Brewers Anonymous in the lead for the Florida Homebrew Competition Circuit by 25 points!
Four regional competitions and the National Homebrew Competition finals remain this season.
First Coast Cup on July 27th and Commander SAAZ on October 26th are both at capacity. Sunshine Challenge and Best Florida Beer will be opening for registration soon. We need EVERY brewer in the club to enter both of these competitions if we want to repeat our circuit win in 2024! To stay updated on when entries open and what other club members are doing to prepare for these competitions, join our Discord server and check out the competition channels.
Commander SAAZ has put out the call for judges. To help the SAAZ Homebrew club have a successful competition and get some judging experience, sign up at: https://reggiebeer.com/ReggieEntry.php?CompetitionID=SOJJPN1000840.
The club summer lager exchange date has been set. The sorting and trade will be part of our August 2024 meeting, which will take place on Friday, August 16th, 2024.
The Commander SAAZ Beer Train was confirmed. Members can drop off their entries at Rockpit Brewing on Wednesday, July 24th, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Thanks to Dan Morrison for driving the entries to this year’s competition!
Details for two upcoming festivals Brewers Anonymous plans to participate in were shared. Orlando Beer Fest will be held on Saturday, November 2nd. And Tom and Dan’s Bad at Business Beerfest will be held on Saturday, November 23rd.
We recapped our visit to Jacksonville and with C.A.S.K. Homebrew club to help judge for their “First Coast Cup” competition. Over the past few years, we have developed a perfect working and competitive relationship with C.A.S.K. and look forward to continuing it.
The launch of “LEARN.BREWERSANONYMOUS.ORG” was announced. This is Brewers Anonymous’ new online E-Learning system, which launched with our current flagship course, the “BJCP Training Program.”
This system is open to anyone wanting to learn or share any educational material related to homebrewing. We hope it will become a valuable resource for all homebrewers and expand our online presence in the homebrew community.
To conclude the meeting, we updated the Homebrewer of the Year standings. Mike Thompson is currently in first place with 82 points, Bill Carley is in second with 62 points, and Matt Hunsworth has 53 points.
Thanks to everyone who attended, and see you next month!
Cheers!
